Vermeil (pronounced vehr-may) is a legally regulated term that refers to a certain kind of quality jewelry. To be legally called “vermeil”, the jewelry piece must meet ALL of these conditions:

1. Have sterling silver as its base material. Sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other materials, and is a standard material used in high quality jewelry (versus, e.g., brass or copper).

2. Be plated in gold that is at least 10k (10 karats). That means the gold is at least 41.7% gold content.

3. Have gold plating that is at least 2.5 microns thick. A micron is 1/1000th of a millimeter.

Gold Vermeil is more durable and longer-lasting than gold-plated jewelry.

Gold plated has a minimum thickness of 0.5 microns, whilst Gold Vermeil has to be a thickness of at least 2.5 microns. 

925 Sterling Silver is a lightweight metal made of 92.5% pure silver. It’s highly durable and designed for everyday wear.

Water generally does not damage sterling silver. *But* water does cause silver to oxidize (darken) more quickly, and what type of water and the chemicals in it has an impact on how much it will cause your silver change color.

Shower water is generally fine but avoid pool water, salted water or any type of water that contain harsh chemicals.

Enameling is a technique in which a glossy substance, traditionally a type of glass, is applied to the surface of metal or another hard surface. Traditional enamel is glass-based; however, we use cold enamel—also known as epoxy resin enamel—which does not contain glass. This type is far more durable and resistant to chipping that may sometimes occur with daily wear.

All of our precious and semi-precious gemstones are between 6A - AAA grade, considered the rarest and most valuable.

The more intentional you are about caring for your jewelry, the longer it will last.

You can follow these simple steps to help your vermeil and sterling silver jewellery last longer:

-As a general care tip, your jewelry should be the last thing you put on before going out and the first thing you remove upon coming home.

-We recommend cleaning your vermeil jewellery with our microfibre cloth after each wear and before storing it.

-Remove your jewellery before doing any activity that risks physical damage.

-Remove your jewellery before showering, swimming or exercising. Or ensure to wipe completely dry after coming into contact with moisture.

-Allow perfume, lotions and creams to be absorbed into skin before putting on your jewellery.

-When not being worn, store in a safe, dry place to protect against the elements of daily exposure.

-Store pieces separately to avoid damage.

-Ensure pieces are completely dry before storing.

-Certain metals, like vermeil and sterling silver, can be prone to tarnishing. We recommend storing your jewellery in our jewellery pouch and box with the provided antitarnishing black sheet. It will protect the metals from tarnishing by absorbing sulphides and other pollutants in the air cause tarnishing to occur.
